We all have songs that we can’t seem to shake. Songs that surface when we are trying to concentrate, or perhaps when we are trying to sleep. It could be a commercial jingle, or a song that you happen to hear on the radio. It could be a particular artist’s catalog that seems to stick in your brain. There has even been a term coined for this – “Earworms”. Sounds pretty gross, huh? Here’s the Wikipedia entry on this topic:
In my own case, there are a few songs which come to mind. Some of them I truly enjoy, while others…well, others I don’t like all that much.
The song(s) that you choose can be something catchy that you just really like, or it could be more perplexing (“Why do I find myself singing Heart’s ‘Barracuda’ out of the blue?”).
At any rate, this month’s Inspired by Song! group contest is “Get This Song Out of My Head!”. Please keep in mind that it can be ANY SONG or you can use multiple songs in your entry to create the perfect mixtape of torturous tunes if you prefer. Either way, please take some time to describe why this particular song was chosen. As always, entries will be judged based on the writing within the post, rather than simply the songs you choose.
- The post must be tagged JUNE SONG CONTEST. You can title it whatever you like.
- All entries must be submitted between now and June 28th, 11:59pm Central Standard time.
- Only one entry per person will be allowed for bonus points, but you may write multiple entries if you like, or your entry can contain multiple songs.
- Post your entry in the groups Inspired By Song! and Active Rain Addicts, along with any other groups that you want to use.
Although the judges are free to comment on any and all of the entries, any comments made during the contest will not be an indication of the final results.
Grand prize winner – 1000 points
500 points for up to five honorable mention posts
200 points just for entering the contest (These points are in addition to the 200 points that you receive for every post, and whatever bonus points that you get for comments from Active Rain).
Let me know if you have any questions. We hope to see a lot of great entries this time!
