I have been blogging on this platform actively since August 2007. I am thankful for the recognition, points, featured posts, and for the referrals from other agents. However, I feel most thankful to have made some very solid friends in the process.
In my humble opinion, if you haven’t made any sincere friendships on ActiveRain, you are missing out on one of the primary benefits.
I have a very simple suggestion for any of you who are reading this post:
Pick up the phone and call some of the people you admire/respect/enjoy reading and interacting with online. Don’t just limit it to ActiveRain, either. Call your Twitter and Facebook friends, too, if you can. Every time I have contacted an AR member or a Twitter follower, they are pleasantly surprised that I took the time to call them. This is the essence of being social, right?
I have spoken with dozens of AR members over the past couple of years. In fact, I count some of them in my group of closest friends now. I never would have imagined that this would happen.
I even managed to recruit two new agents for my brokerage from Twitter! This stuff has real value IF you take the next step.
Pick up the phone – you might be surprised to find a real friend on the other end of the line. Better yet, attend a conference or hold a gathering of your own. Social media is not meant to supplant face-to-face (or phone) interaction. Instead, it is meant to enhance it! One of the more compelling reasons to participate on these sites is to leverage your time and further your “reach”.
